Faye Tessendorf, Homecoming Revolution Director, shares her thoughts of her experience at the African Leadership Network Gathering in Mauritius from 2nd – 5th November 2016.
On the first day of ALN all sitting under a marquee with the blue ocean shimmering in front of us, we had the privilege of listening to jazz icon, Kirk Whalum opening up the theme for the conference which was the ‘Art of Leading’. Having come from a corporate environment, I had never associated Leading with Art – but over the next few days I learned very powerful tools for identifying and nurturing leadership traits.
The networking opportunities were endless and I built & cemented many great relationships with global Africans. This makes our job as the brain gain company SO much easier, as there is very strong talent out there across many different sectors, who have a yearning to be home.
The authenticity and vulnerability of the hundreds of top executives from across the continent astounded me. The environment was so relaxed and non-competitive. Everyone was so warm and down-to-earth and really all there for the same reason: to build an innovative, prosperous and sustainable Africa.
