Kim van Wyk and her family have been back in South Africa for just over a year. She looks back on her first year back home.
We are so happy! Now that’s not to say it has been easy. I was 20 weeks pregnant when we arrived, and we had not planned our little miracle nor the hospital bills that came with it. So financially, we have been quite tight. But saying that, we have also been truly blessed!
Both my husband and I have work and although we’re not exactly rolling in it, we’re able to cover our monthly bills, which is more than can be said for a lot of people across the world.
Our daughter had to be kept back as there was no space at any of the schools, but this has been a total blessing in disguise. She’s only 6 months older than her classmates, a great group of friends and is going to an amazing school. Plus, she’s even learnt some Afrikaans!
All in all, it’s been a roller coaster, what with missing friends and family in the UK.
But do I regret it? No! Would I do it differently? No! Is my lovely family of 4 happy? Very much so!
What more can I say, we’re home and enjoying every bit of this beautiful place that surrounds us every day.
