Lynn Mackenzie returned to Cape Town from Los Angeles at the end of last year after being away for almost 17 years. She returned to pursue a post graduate law degree at UCT.
While in LA, I worked as a Legal services Fellow for a refugee resettlement and immigration organization. Prior to that, I was a Legislative Analyst. I got both my degrees in the USA, a BA in Political Science and a Law Degree.
UCT was one of the top universities to do an LLM (Masters of Laws) in Human Rights Law and the only university that is affiliated with both with the UN and Amnesty International. It was a no brainer to return!
My time thus far has been magical, honestly! I haven’t been happier and not because everything is perfect in my life but because I’m truly blessed to be back home where I belong. There’s nothing like being reunited with family members and old friends from school. Its amazing being reacquainted with a place I have loved all along. I have already made great strides. Needless to say, I wish I came home sooner.
